On April 9, 2021, the Mexican government established the new Directrices Generales para la Enseñanza de las Lenguas Indígenas para preservar, potenciar, conservar y garantizar el derecho a la educación bilingüe para la población indígena mexicana. Estas directrices son el resultado del acuerdo alcanzado entre el Instituto Nacional de Educación Para los Adultos y el Instituto Nacional de Lenguas Indígenas.
